Kristen Kish and Arlo Grey

A person wearing a white collared shirt is standing in front of a painted tapestry and a pink wall.

From a young age, Kristen Kish had an instinct for food. After her first taste of spicy kimchi at the age of seven, she wanted to pair it with a burger for balance. The same intuitive approach to re-inventing nostalgic dishes characterizes the work of the Top Chef Season 10 and author today, although she’s acquired a hefty dose of technique and experience in the intervening years — an education at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts and time in fine dining environments has taught her a thing or two.

Today, chef Kristen speaks about making food as storytelling, and she’s no stranger to the practice: She’s been co-host with Alton Brown of Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend, co-starred in Fast Foodies, and a guest judge on Top Chef — to name a few. Chef Kristen also helms the LINE’s Austin’s Arlo Grey, where she’s cultivated a supportive and inclusive kitchen culture while creating mouthwatering dishes drawing from the bounty of Texas farms. Get to know her in this interview with Jack Inslee.
