dykes day and Hermetic State invite you to MUTUAL AID 101, a hands-on workshop on the basics of mutual aid in the DMV and how to contribute to and organize a mutual aid network, no matter big or small. This workshop will focus on:
• Identifying immediate material needs within our multiple ecologies (be it our friend group, neighborhood, ward, organization, book club, sober alliance, school, etc) and identifying the best ways to connect each other to local and national resources.
• Learning from existing blueprints for mutual aid networks, such as Consistent Money Moving Project and the Black Panther Party’s Free Lunch Program,
• A pod mapping activity to help jumpstart mutual aid networks that are built on immediate needs and available resources, trust, and reciprocity.
This workshop is free with RSVP and we’re inviting queer and trans black and brown writers and readers, independent print workers, organizers, DC neighbors, and cultural workers; we’ll have stationary available for note taking and we’ll have coffee and pastries to share. Masks will be required and we’ll have some on hand as well.
