Join us for a special panel discussion on Saturday, September 14th, at the Jonathan Carver Moore gallery in San Francisco, featuring internationally acclaimed South African photographer Pieter Hugo. Hugo will be joined by Natasha Becker, Curator of African Art at the De Young Museum, and Michelle Mansour, Executive Director of Root Division, for a thoughtful exploration of California Wildflowers, Hugo’s latest portrait series.
The California Wildflowers exhibition, running from September 12 to November 9, 2024, captures vibrant and unconventional portraits of people from San Francisco’s Tenderloin district. Inspired by the visual and social similarities between the Tenderloin and parts of Cape Town, the series delves into identity, place, and humanity, offering an evocative look at the strength and beauty of marginalized communities.
This panel will explore the intersection of portraiture, place, and cultural narratives, offering insights into the creation of this bold and visually stunning body of work.
