What’s the Story?

Situated on the triangular block where Union Square and South of Market (SoMa) districts meet, the LINE San Francisco melds the city’s historic spirit with the buzz of its modern arts and culture scene.

A Downtown San Francisco Hotel with West Coast Ease

The LINE San Francisco opened in September 2022, bringing the brand’s signature design-forward approach to the vibrant heart of downtown SF. The 12-story, Flatiron-inspired hotel features 236 hotel rooms that pay homage to local history, a rooftop bar with views of the SF skyline, and an art collection featuring the work of local creators.

At the Intersection of Culture and Community

Each LINE concept seeks to connect travelers to culturally rich neighborhoods and meaningful communities. Our hotel in downtown San Francisco is no different.

Within a half-mile radius of the LINE SF, you’ll find the Ferry Building, SFMoma, Union Square, the Museum of African Diaspora, and the Asian Art Museum. The hotel is also within minutes of the Theater District and San Francisco’s iconic Civic Center. Borrow a Priority x the LINE bike and pedal east or west to stumble on block after block of art spaces, cafes, restaurants, and local shops.

Back at the hotel, guest rooms feature Victorian-inspired palettes mixed with the black-and-white pop of street photography, the LINE’s nod to one of San Francisco’s many creative subcultures. The LINE SF’s bar and dining concepts also offer a distinct take on Bay Area history and place, inviting guests and locals alike to settle in, swap dining, art, and music intel, and linger past closing time.

Designing a Hotel Worthy of Its City

The LINE SF is located in the Mid-Market section of San Francisco, a 30-square-block district known for its convergence of diverse sub-cultures. The neighborhood once served as a launchpad for LGBTQ rights, creative arts, and political protest. Today, it is known as a nonprofit hub and entertainment mecca. In the last decade, the neighborhood has hosted an undeniable renaissance, the kind of spark that leads to a broadening definition of city, creativity, and community.

The LINE SF’s design ethos focuses on the defining moments of this neighborhood — past, present, and future. The hotel’s exterior, featuring a facade of reinforced concrete inspired by local masonry, was designed by Handel Architects with conceptual design by renowned architectural firm BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group).

The hotel’s interiors, done in collaboration with Knibb Design, juxtapose the color palette that defines San Francisco’s Victorian homes and materials reminiscent of Mid-Market’s contemporary edge — with textured white oak furniture, abstract graffiti-tagged headboards in the guest rooms, and exposed concrete throughout the hotel.

Joining partner properties in LA, DC, and Austin, the LINE SF is part of a hotel group dedicated to a self-assured sense of purpose and place — and the ways in which fully experiencing a city can redefine how we perceive the world. The LINE brand is part of Soho House & Co, Inc.

Dine In & Drink Up

The LINE approaches the art of taste with the same attention to detail as its interior design, architecture, and hospitality. Our downtown San Francisco hotel has three dining spaces dedicated to good food and better conversation, so take off your coat and stay awhile.

LA’s Alfred Coffee has its first SF location right here at the LINE. In addition to their World Famous Iced Vanilla Latte, our admired cafe offers a full coffee menu, pastries, and takeaway breakfast treats.

Rise Over Run is our rooftop bar and solarium. Arguably the most romantic location on the property, it offers skyline city views alongside craft cocktails and inventive bites.

Dark Bar is the lobby-floor reimagining of your classic hotel bar at our hotel in San Francisco. Come see our mixologists consistently advance and reimagine a menu focused on high-end ingredients and Asian spirits.

THE LINE Philosophy: Neighborhood is Community

While each LINE property differs in design, all are united in approach. We seek to complement each neighborhood’s unique history and architecture, connect guests to culturally rich experiences, and establish meaningful communities within our spaces. Emerging chefs, elevated bartenders, world-class designers, local creatives, and tasteful travelers flow through our spaces, bringing the neighborhood outside into the LINE and the LINE into the community.   Visit us next in Koreatown, Los Angeles, Adams Morgan, Washington, DC, and downtown Austin or at one of our sister properties, The Ned (NoMad, New York) and The Saguaro (Palm Springs).
